Female Vagrant Emperor at Samphire Hoe CP, Dover, Kent this afternoon.

In a brief lull in the strong wind (1425-1435), I had a female Vagrant Emperor flying round the small, southernmost pond at Samphire Hoe CP - 30m N of the beach access point. The critter also flew around (over and landing briefly in) surrounding short vegetation, but disappeared suddenly at 1435. I did not relocate in the next 45 mins - although the wind was strong, so it could easily have been perched up. No photos, I'm afraid - I had my macro lens on the camera, and that wasn't going to do the trick for a creature 5m away.

1 Silver Y to my Actinic trap last night

Vagrant Emperor seen briefly today at Sandy Gallop at north end of Town Common, Christchurch (Chris Dresh).

Late news of Vagrant Emperors from new areas:

A female seen at Burabhal, North Uist, on 18 April (Geoff Morgan)
At least one record from the south coast of Ireland, no further details at present

Belated news of a male Vagrant Emperor seen briefly at Meadow Lakes Holiday Park, near St. Austell on 26 April (Danny Cooper).

No reports today of this species from Cornwall or Kent.

No news either way today on the Vagrant Emperor from Denge Marsh.
