60 Painted Ladies on 24th May,including 42 at Ann's Hill Cemetery, where most were taking Valerian nectar or basking on gravestones in late afternoon sunshine.

Sunday May 17th, minimum of 18,000 Painted Lady moved west, most between 1200-1800hrs, spot counts produced an average of 50 per minute west, the true numbers probably much higher as insects could be seen moving far out to sea and south inland.

A similar consensus from many observers of over 100 Painted Ladies an hour heading through Sussex. A 1 hour timed count of butterflies flying over a gate at the end of a woodland ride near Lewes resulted in 134 Painted Ladies between 15:10 and 16:10.
