25+ Red Admirals flying & basking around The Bowgie Inn at Crantock Bay near Newquay, North Cornwall on Sunday 12th October, 2008 between 2.30 & 4.00pm at approx altitude 200 feet. Interesting that this was on the North coast & not the South in such gloriously Sunny weather! Were they waiting to fly North towards Ireland or Wales or having just arrived from further North? Down on Crantock beach after 4.00pm at sea level there were none seen at all despite clear sky & unbroken sunshine so had they all left together & either flown South to try to reach France or pushed North?

Night of 15th: a single Clancy's Rustic for the second time in recent nights.

Also a couple of resident firsts for the year: Large Wainscot and Green-brindled Crescent

Despite catching only 15 moths, a [b]Clancy's Rustic present in the trap made it worth the while. Also Rusty Dot Pearl and White Point

Just back from 10 nights trapping with 2 traps, 4th to 13th october yielded the followiung totals;

Herpetogramma licarsisalis 1 on night of 13th Oct.

Night of 12 Oct: I recorded 2 Leptoglossus occidentalis (Western Conifer Seed Bug) at Folkestone at m.v. light, and one on the night of the 11 Oct.

Night of 11 Oct: I recorded a Leptoglossus occidentalis (Western Conifer Seed Bug) in my 2x30W Actinic Skinner trap. It is native to North America, arriving on shipments of timber in Italy in 1999 and has since spread across Europe, arriving in the UK in 2007.

Night of 12th: 1 Clancy's Rustic and 1 Four-spotted Footman. Non-migrants included my first two Epirrita specimens of the season.

Night of 12 October: 2 Vestal, 1 White-speck
