A considerable increase in immigrant activity on the levels of the last two years, with the return of some familiar visitors from the south.

First Clouded Yellow of year flying 2 September - alone. This species was abundant here until last year, when only 4 or 5 sightings.

A Convolvulus Hawk-moth picked up dead on the rig, 120 miles north-east in the North Sea (J. Tarrier, per M. Grantham). What is thought to be another was also reported on the rig around the same time.

Hartland Point, Devon. Night of 30/8/08 produced only one Silver Y but 5 Scarce Blackneck, 5 Black-banded, 8 Hoary Footman and 2 Square-spot Dart on the wing.
