Message (modified for submission) originally sent to John Davies at Butterfly Conservation.
Yesterday (3rd October) I was assessing Oakers Bog (very lovely warm sunny day) and whilst sitting alongside Rimsmoor Pond writing out notes a red admiral sized butterfly flew past. It was very obviously dark (practically blackish in flight) with a very distinctive thick creamy (not white) wing border all the way round. I saw the butterfly for only a short while before it disappeared into a small area of willow and young oak. I instantly recognised it as a Camberwell Beauty. Checked it out in various books noticed that it was at the tail end of the flight period but very much possible. Have there been any other records in Dorset. Sean |
