3rd September: 2 Vestals flushed during the day whilst hay cutting.
Night of 2 September: 9 Vestals at Spexhall, near Halesworth.
Night of 2nd September: 3 Vestal.
Night of 1st September: 1 Vestal. Also one by day on 2nd September. Already probably the best year ever for this species on the reserve - usually less than annual. |

Night of 2 September:
5 Vestals here last night. Congratulations to Nigel at Landguard. The Vestal has a very strange migration in Suffolk, with records more likely inland than on the immediate coast. It was exceptionally rare at my old Bawdsey site; but regular where I am now slightly inland. |

Night of 2 Sept;
4 Vestal, 2 SilverY & 2 noctuella |

After 25 years of trapping have finally got the 1st long overdue site record of Vestal - not sure why it's taken so long !

Delighted to have just received a call and been taken to a fully grown Deaths Head Larva found by Mr Jack Huston-Garcia on the lawn in his Back garden in Angmering Village. The only local foodplant I could see was Buddliea.

2nd September - 7 Vestals disturbed whilst cutting long grass today.
Hummingbird hawk moth also noted around Buddleia, plus a Painted lady. |
Along with 3 Silver Ys and a Dark Sword Grass last night was a Clouded Magpie. This is the first record for ST41 in nearly 20 years. Unseasonably late, could it be a possible migrant?
