Hummingbird Hawkmoth this afternoon in my garden on this beautifully warm, sunny & still day. Although later summer immigrants are usual with me, I have never seen one this early before - I assume it is an over-wintered individual?

Last night - 4th April Mick Richardson trapped in one trap in Granada province S Spain and recorded 73 Bordered Straws -yes, 73!!
Get ready for the Bordered Straw invasion to Britain if we get some southerlies!!

This Scarce Tortoiseshell was flying around a public footpath at Peewit Hill Felixstowe Suffolk TM289338 ON 27/03/2015 around 11.30-i2.45 on and off at first thought to be a Large Tortoiseshell but on views of it's legs suspicion turned towards it being Scarce Tortoiseshell. Confirmation via Rob Parker and Bill Stone of photographs gave us the go ahead to release the news as such.
