Night of 6 September: 11 Diamond-back Moth, 1 Rush Veneer, 3 Rusty-dot Pearl, 1 Dark Pine Knot-horn Dioryctria abietella, 1 red-striped male Vestal (long overdue 'first' for the year), 7 Silver Y and a Golden Twin-spot (20th for Bawdsey).

Yesterday's post had the required effect: on the night of the 6th Rusty Dot Pearl (1), and Silver Y (1) arrived along with 2 more Diamond-backed Moths,

Recent emergence of small numbers of teneral Red-veined Darters with six seen yesterday and one today (Douglas Wright pers. comm.).

Night of 5 September. Evidence of continued immigration with 2 Vestal, 4 Palpita vitrealis, 1 Delicate, 4 Silver Y, 1 D. abietella, 3 Rush Veneer, 7 Rusty-dot Pearl and 6 Diamond-back moths.

2 Diamond-backed Moths on the 5th of September might have been migrants. The Large Thorn taken the night before was a local, and the several White-points seen in the past week will also be from the newly-established locally breeding population. Very little evidence of migration here so far this year.

Night of 5 September: 10 Diamond-back Moth, 6 Rush Veneer, 1 Rusty-dot Pearl, 1 Heath Knot-horn Apomyelois bistriatella, 3 Latticed Heath, 1 Convolvulus Hawk-moth, 2 Dark Sword-grass and 2 Silver Y at Stanny Farm, Iken. Also 10 Lunar Yellow Underwings.
Bawdsey Hall traps produced: 28 Diamond-back Moth, 2 Rush Veneer, 2 Rusty-dot Pearl, 5 Dark Sword-grass and 7 Silver Y. |
