Night of 8 March: 1 Turnip Moth
A Small Magpie moth flew into my parents utility room this evening. Exactly two months earlier than my previous earliest record of this species.

Night of 7th:
Red Swordgrass to mv There are previous records from this area and I recorded one here this time of year in 2012, so perhaps the recent records from here and Devon are local moths. |
Hummingbird Hawk-moth reported in Bath on 8th March per avonbirding blog.

Just found a common marbled carpet in our kitchen!!

Following on from Iain's record on Thursday, I also had a Red Sword-grass last night, 7th March, here in south Devon. (And also my first record.)
In addition, the expected supporting cast of March stuff - Oak Beauty (5), Early, Early Grey, March moth, Red Chestnut, Common Quaker (12), Hebrew Character (7). |

Monks Risborough today, several brimstones seen and one tortoishell - not surpising given the beautiful weather
7/3 daytime - 2 Peacocks and 2 Small Torts in the garden. Bloxworth Snout active in the garden shed.

2 Red Sword Grass in the trap last night. My first records here and only the 2nd and 3rd records from ST41. Refugees from the flooded levels or possible migrants?
First time I have put the trap out this year (pretty much first time the winds have been at levels where I wouldn't have had to go and retrieve it from the Scottish lowlands!)
Pale Brindled Beauty, Oak Beauty (x2), March moth (x2), Early Thorn, Grey Shoulder-knot, plus something else that needs a bit of ID work... |
