That's my first Gem in Cardiff since 2006. Jake Gilmore caught one the previous night (2/10/13) in central Cardiff.

Night of 3 October: 1 Dark Mottled Willow, 1 Blair's Mocha, 1 Old World Webworm, 1 Porters Rustic, 9 Vestal, 4 Palpita vitrealis, 1 Humming-bird Hawk-moth, 1 Scarce Bordered Straw, 1 Delicate.

Another Four-spotted Footman, this time a male.

Not a scarce migrant but just as interesting/intriguing, a male Biston betularia Peppered Moth overnight 3-Oct.

3 Diamond-back Moth, 4 Rush Veneer, 1 Palpita vitrealis, 1 Convolvulus Hawk-moth, 1 male Four-spotted Footman, 1 Crimson Speckled (first Bawdsey record since 1885 and my first ever self-trapped!), 3 Dark Sword-grass, 2 Delicate, 3 Silver Y and 1 Red Admiral.

A real splash of colour in the traps this morning with Frosted Orange, Merveille du Jour, a selection of sallows and the variation in Beaded Chestnuts.
