Further to my earlier posting; perspectalis is not a sexually dimorphic species and the photo I posted is of the apparently much scarcer brown form. Shame as I hoped it was the female and I could breed it!

27/7 Daytime - many Silver Y plus final instar caterpillar, several Red Admiral including mid instar caterpillar, lots of Whites including Small Whites which seem to have been scarce until now, migrants?. Also 5 Dolicharthria punctalis disturbed from cliff tops

Night of 26 July: Group trapping session with J.E. Chainey, J. Spence, P.E. Bryant and myself. c240 species recorded; migrants/wanderers as follows: 1+ Bird-cherry Ermine, 20 Willow Ermine, 20 Diamond-back Moth, 1 Peach Twig Borer (first for Suffolk), 1 Elegia similella, 10 European Corn-borer, 1 Convolvulus Hawk-moth, 2 Dark Sword-grass and 30 Silver Y.
Another Elegia similella was recorded in nearby Hollesley on 24 July by R. Watson. These are the first peninsula records. |
