Migrant Dragonfly Alert!
Yellow-winged Darter Sympetrum flaveolum yesterday at Winterton North Dunes, Norfolk, at midday, on pool just NE of the concrete blocks but no sign today. A single male Southern Emerald Damselfly Lestes barbarus late afternoon today in the same area. Also in Norfolk, a Red-veined Darter Sympetrum fonscolombii was seen on Thursday 5 August at Felbrigg Hall, Norfolk, at the NE corner of the lake. However, it was not relocated yesterday. The Willow Emerald Damselfly Lestes viridis is having a good year in Suffolk. Reliable sites to look for this species include Candlet Farm, Trimley St. Mary (directions as per the last migrant insect review) and the River Deben at Campsea Ashe (along the footpath from Quill Farm). In Essex, several Southern Migrant Hawker Aeshna affinis were still present on Tuesday at Hadleigh Castle Country Park. There have been no reports since. In Kent Southern Emerald Damselfly Lestes barbarus were still at Cliffe Marshes on 1 August; whilst Dungeness hosted a Lesser Emperor Anax parthenope on 5 August at the ARC pits. |
