Last night's trapping (29/8) at Prawle Point was all about the migrants -an excellent night with over 150 migrants of 12 species. The only trouble is I don't know whether it was good because I tried trapping at a different place or because it was better weather.I tried a trap on top of Prawle Point at the highest point and it was stunning with 400+ moths in it including loads of migrants and 3 Convolvulus in it! You think Large Yellow Underwings are bad the way they crash into other moths and disturb them - that;'s nothing compared with 3 freshly arrived Convolvulus in your trap. And this all in a little portable Skinner trap.
The migrant count was; Rusty-dot Pearl x 35 Rush Veneer x 59 Vestal x 2 (1 red and 1 brown) Convolvulus Hawk x 3 (1m& 2f) Dark Swordgrass x 18 Turnip x12 Pearly Underwing x 4 White-speck x 1 White-point x 1 Small Mottled Willow x 1 Silver Y x 42 (all large and dark coloured) Bordered Straw x 1 (dark individual) |
