What is InsectLine?

InsectLine has joined forces with Atropos to provide an expanded and improved information service on migrant and resident butterflies, moths, dragonflies and damselflies. Headlines are updated with the latest news of migrants, scarcer resident species and early or late emergences, often several times a day in busy periods. Access details for long-staying rarities are also given.

By reporting your news to InsectLine you are notifying others quickly of unusual sightings, as well as providing information that may then be published in the pages of Atropos.

Accessing the News

InsectLine Messages can be accessed by dialing 09068 700250 (Calls to 09068 numbers cost 60p per minute) and entering the following numbers after the message has started to play:

  • To promote a greater awareness of butterflies, dragonflies, damselflies and moths.
  • To provide information on non-controversial sites where Lepidoptera and Odonata can be observed without threat to either the species or habitat.
  • To work with conservation organisations to ensure that information is accurate and not misleading.
  • To provide up-to-date information on the occurrence of migrant species and promote more comprehensive recording of migratory events.
  • To supply information received to the appropriate recording body.
  • To promote, wherever possible, conservation organisations on whose property the species is present.

With these aims in mind InsectLine is firmly committed to conservation and will not broadcast any information relating to species on sites where there is a threat to their welfare.
